Mayamam Weavers

I like adding a pop of colour to outfits I wear. It is summer, and we should be dressing in tune to the flora around us 😉 It’s usually a handbag or a pair of shoes that adds colour to my otherwise neutral outfits. This time I decided to add a pop of colour to my black maxi dress with a handwoven scarf from Mayamam Weavers (website/FB/Instagram). I like buying from brands who have lovely stories to tell, and Mayamam Weavers is definitely one of them.

Mayamam Weavers is a cooperative of women that began in 2008, and is based in Cajola, a Mayan town in Guatemala. These women came together to create job opportunities within their community. It was at a time when people used to migrate to the US to overcome poverty. The artisans and weavers are provided fair trade wages, and are taught the skills to run a business. This community also provides childcare facilities and adult literacy classes on site.

They produce handwoven home goods and accessories that are 100% cotton and are fit for daily use. They draw inspiration from their rich Mayan heritage and translate them to colours and patterns. Their products range from aprons to potholders, and from scarves to backpacks.

I got a magenta metallic scarf with fringes from them. Here is the link to the same scarf in infinity style.

The maxi dress is from Forever 21 and the sling bag with fringes from Billabong.

I can’t wait to style the scarf in other ways. What do you think of this look? Would you rather pair it with white? Or perhaps a baby pink cotton top? Let me know what you think.

I will be back soon with another exciting post. Take care and have a nice weekend!
